This past weekend, I visited Western Michigan University to attend a program known as Honors First. Being able to go to this allowed me to pick my classes ahead of the rest of the incoming students due to joining the Lee Honors College.
With my decision to go into the medical field, I had a schedule made for me ahead of time based on the necessary requirements; these requirements include 12-15 credits and a class of the honors level. My current classes include a Chemistry course, a Human Anatomy and Physiology course, a Sociology course, and an honors English course. With these classes in mind, it gives me an outlook on what is to come during my future college years. I am also able to look forward to experiencing things that catch my interest, and hopefully an ideal job will be realistic in the near future.

I remember back in November when I attended the Medallion Scholarship competition at Western Michigan thinking it was a huge mistake, but it turned out to be an incredible opportunity. Although I didn't end up receiving the overall scholarship, I was rewarded with a smaller portion while also gaining lots of knowledge and opportunities to learn about my potential while in college. This only sparked my interest in becoming a dosimetrist even more, though I will have to take some steps before preparing myself for that field. Although it is a smaller and more challenging field, the scholarship competition opened my eyes to a multitude of opportunities, ones in which I have no doubt the faculty at this college will aid me in obtaining.
At this competition, I also learned of a thesis we will have to write throughout the duration of college. This thesis will have to incorporate what we are interested in, and we must do our own research and experimentation in order to create one that is successful. My hope is to do something relating to cancer; this may benefit me in the future while searching for job opportunities.
